Mary Jane Volkmann often uses acrylic paints while on location or "en plein air" as was popularized by the French Impressionists. She works quickly to capture the moment, using the lush color and fine detail she loves.

"Plein-air works require enormous effort as painters fight the constantly changing
light and moving shadows, burning sun and glare, rain and wind, bugs, animals..."
-- B. Eric Rhoads, Chairman/Publisher Plein Air Magazine
