St. Lukes Church | |||
I started this painting on a freezing cold and windy morning in November of 2006. I had my easel set up on the back of the truck I was given to use during my stay as Artist in Residence on Sapelo Island. While I was painting members of the community started arriving for church services and eventually the arriving cars blocked my view, so I packed away my painting to finish a year later. When I returned I realized how quickly things change. Some of the bushes had been cut down to make way for paving, a new cross had been placed on top of the church, and the building itself was ready for new paint. As I finished the painting I met one of the island residents who very excitedly told me “That’s my aunt’s car!” | |||
